Stories of a German Exchange Student

Begin of Lapland Trip

I spent the rest of the holidays either preparing for the FLL finals or doing maths. I also slept at Alide’s place one night during the holidays. The next school week was pretty normal, except for some dance practices with my class for the upcoming school internal dance competition. On Friday, I went to a volleyball competition with three teams. Because my training isn’t in the town where my school is, there was some uncertainty about which team I would be on, so I ended up playing with people I’d never played with before. The overall organisation wasn’t great, to be honest. Yesterday, for Women’s Day, which is a lot more celebrated in Estonia than in Germany (e.g. you’re expected to bring flowers, write cards etc.), I visited Alide. We cleaned also some random wood in their garden in preparation for spring up. Now I’m on my way to a one-week trip to Lapland. I’m taking the bus to Tallinn to catch the ferry, but for some reason they didn’t accept card payment, so I had to run back to my host dad, who drove me to the bus stop and asked him for some cash. Unfortunately, the bus driver did not believe that the 50-euro note I got from my host dad was real, so I had a really unusual conversation about being a honest worker, fake money and crimes in Estonia, which is definitely not included in the “I understand every day stuff” category. To my relieve he accepted it in the end. I try to post at least during the trip more frequently.
